a unique visual spectacle: White, blue and green

MUZE'UM L, LIGHT & LANDSCAPE E 03°07'45” / N 50°55'12”

the architect marc van schuylenbergh built with the muze'um L in rumbeke - zilverberg ( mont d’argent ) an unusual exhibition space, a muze’um for Light & Landscape'

the white, sunken building is embedded in the rolling landscape to the south of the city of roeselare, next to villa eksternest, the modernist villa by architect huib hoste. like the architecture of the building, the concept of the museum is not commonplace: it is not an exhibition space, but an ode to nature. with the light meridian and the sun as protagonists.

muze'um L is located at exactly 03°07'45" east of 0° longitude greenwich, an imagined north-south line running across the silverberg site. the building functions as a monumental light generator, which transforms this local longitude into a light meridian, where the central artist is the sun. for when the sun is at its highest in the afternoon, it is exactly above that line and there is no shadow.

in and around the building, the varying incidence of light at any time of the day creates a unique visual spectacle. the sky) and into the greenery (the landscape).

a collaboration with local farmers and the creation of a panoramic walking path further shape the experience on the site. although muze'um L is a clever architectural construction, it is in itself only a framework, a context that requires concrete interpretation. artists of all kinds – sculptors, musicians, photographers, poets, technicians, … – can give free rein to their creativity. the light and the landscape are at their disposal…

a guided visit to this special building is possible every day by appointment and free of charge on Sundays from 14:00 - 17:00

the LIGHT-MERIDIAN LINE
the light-meridian line runs from the north to the south pole via belgium, france, spain, the mediterranean sea and north africa. by placing contemporary works of art on this line, the muze'um L aims to achieve a harmonious interplay activating between nations, cities, landowners and artists, to promote natural and creative beauty.

Un musée privé s’est intégré dans la campagne proche de Roulers. Il a la particularité d’être construit en fonction d’un méridien. Il se perçoit comme sculpture monumentale. Et se propose d’être un jalon d’une démarche européenne future.
